For applications where automatic operation is useful, PIR and sensor floodlights can activate when movement is detected. These are particularly suitable for entrances, access routes, security areas and locations where continuous illumination may not be required.
Higher-output commercial and industrial LED floodlights can provide effective area lighting for larger yards, building exteriors and working spaces. Suitable mounting brackets allow the fitting angle to be adjusted so that light can be directed towards the required area.
For outdoor installations, check the floodlight's IP rating and manufacturer's stated environmental suitability. Different products offer different levels of protection against water and dust, so the required rating should be matched to the installation location.
When choosing an LED floodlight, consider the lumen output, wattage, beam angle, colour temperature, mounting height and required coverage area. For security applications, also consider whether PIR or other sensor control is required.
Careful positioning is important for commercial exterior lighting. The fitting should provide useful illumination where required while considering glare, neighbouring properties and unnecessary light spill.
